Virginia Dare (McSpadden) Mueller

94, a resident of Indianapolis for the majority of her life, passed away August 14, 2015.

Daughter of John Dee and Jessie (Caplinger) McSpadden, Virginia was born April 26, 1921 in Parke County, Indiana.

After working for 38 years at Eli Lilly, many of those as an executive secretary, she “retired” to become a very active volunteer throughout the city of Indianapolis well into her 80’s. She spent many years volunteering at the Indiana Historical Society, the Indiana State Museum, the Benjamin Harrison Home, the Indianapolis Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, and the Hoosier Salon.

Following the passing of her husband in 1977, when she wasn’t volunteering, Virginia traveled extensively on Ambassadair and Grueninger tours. She enjoyed visiting several foreign countries and 48 of the United States, lamenting that she was never able to make it to Oregon or Delaware. As her energy declined in her more recent years, she found old age to be boring, she much preferred the travel and volunteering of her “earlier” years.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter “Buss” Mueller, and her brother John McSpadden, of Avon. She is survived by her niece Patty McSpadden, great niece Tricia DeMarco, and great-great niece and nephew Ella and John DeMarco. She will be missed.

Much appreciation to the special caretakers at Morningside Memory Unit for the past 15 months of care, and for the special attention recently from Kindred Hospice.

Burial will be at Concordia Cemetery in Indianapolis. A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 22 at 11 A.M.
